Cinderella Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from the Front Lines of the New Girlie-Girl Culture

Cinderella Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from the Front Lines of the New Girlie-Girl Culture - Peggy Orenstein Orenstein shares all kinds of interesting observations and research tidbits about the environment little girls are growing up in today, and in a conversational and funny way that I really enjoyed. I especially liked the sections about fairy tales and facebook (beyond bullying, but how even as adults facebook causes us to process our experience "as it occurs, packaging life as (we) live it" in order to share it. Recommended reading, especially for parents of little girls.I happened to put this book on hold a while ago, before my daughter started to talk more about wanting to be "prettier" and wear makeup (thanks to wearing some at her ballet recital). I hope to cut back on our princess and looks-focused toys and activities, and also encourage more boy/girl friendships after reading this.
