I like Arnie the Doughnut as a picture book and a movie, and his character translates to chapter book pretty well. The first few pages fill in those not familiar with Arnie ("Mr. Bing...remember when you tried to EAT me...ha ha ha") and goes from there with a mystery involving Mr. Bing's bowling league. It was funny, though a bit of the humor will go over kids' heads, I think. Apparently, in Arnie's world, most objects like pizza slices and bowling pins can talk as he does. Lots of illustrations and a quick, fun read. I'll add comments of my kids' impressions later.
