Creative and well-done, this should appeal to higher-level elementary-school readers who like Harry Potter (though I don't get that question so much anymore), due to its creative and fun world-building. It's a great adventure with a strong girl character. I subtracted one star because there were times I found myself skimming over the descriptions - as great as they were, I think they could have been pared down at times. Or I'm just lazy and want to skip to the action.
