This is a nice story, but pretty slow-paced, especially when listening to it on audio (I listened to discs 1-3 out of 7). I was intrigued by the concept and think some kids might be as well. Topics like racism, twins, and the differences between generations are covered. I didn't get to the actual pageant part, but I suspect some kids will like that too. Narrator Bahni Turpin's voice for Grandma Johnson is hilarious.
